Unsteady two-dimensional coating flow of a thin film viscous fluid on the outside uniformly rotating horizontal circular cylinder in presence steady irrotational airflow with circulation is considered. The analysis this problem by Newell and Viljoen [Phys. Fluids 31(3), 034106 (2019)], who sought to generalize work Hinch Kelmanson [Proc. R. Soc. London, Ser. A 459(2033), 1193–1213 (2003)] include effect airflow, revisited. In contrast claim that conditionally unstable (in sense solution for thickness grows without bound certain values physical parameters), it shown that, fact, remains unconditionally stable airflow.
